Prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 lineages
24 June 2021International health authorities released guidelines and recommendations for careful monitoring of the spread of some specific variants of SARS-CoV-2 (see here for further details) collectively known under the acronym VOC (Variants of Concern). The tables included in this report offer an overview, as of June 15th, of the prevalence and geographic distribution of these variants in various European and extra-European countries and in different Italian regions.
Two distinct non-overlapping time intervals are compared to illustrate the circulation of VOCs in space and time and possible increases/decreases in their prevalence. Table 1 incorporates data from April 29th (last update) to June 15th 2021, while Table 2 reports equivalent for the interval considered in the previous update (from February 27th to April 28th 2021).

Genomes per 1000 cases
10 June 2021Number of SARS-CoV-2 genomes sequenced for every 1000 reported cases of COVID-19 in different countries. Only countries for which 1000 or more genomes are available from public repositories are represented.

10 June 2021The figure reports the number of SARS-CoV-2 genomic sequences available from the GISAID portal. Only countries for which 1000 or more genomes are available are represented. Blue: “novel” genomes, submitted between Apr 1st and May 31st 2021. Gray: genomes available on GISAID before Apr 1st 2021.

10 June 2021The figure displays the number of SARS-CoV-2 genomes currently available in the GISAID database, for every 1000 reported cases of COVID-19, for the 20 Italian administrative regions. This metric provides a raw indication of our ability to rapidly identify novel mutations or lineages of the virus and monitor its circulation on a geographical and temporal basis. Panel A) shows the global situation (from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic). Panel B) shows the situation of the last month (from May 1st to May 30th 2021).
